Romania 2024

One of my travel bucket lists is to see every capital city in Europe. The group of countries we have not visited at all are the Balkans which include Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia and a few others. An opportunity came up for a quick trip in December to see the Romanian Christmas Markets. I didn’t give it a lot of thought – just booked a tour with Gate1 as a single traveler. The trip started and ended in the capital of Bucharest with visits to beautiful towns in Transylvania in between. I enjoyed traveling on my own, something I haven’t done in many years. The Christmas markets were a bust in my opinion but I really enjoyed learning about the history and culture of this former Communist country. The weather in December is pretty much what you might expect – cold, wet, some snow – with only 1 day of full sunshine.
